摘　　要：《相当体面的失败》中的塔里斯·布朗是艾丽丝·默多克中后期小说中一系列善人形象的原型。他谦卑无我、不善言辞,对周围的人有着无私的爱,类似“基督”的角色。塔里斯·布朗的个性和生活状态有一种本真的纯朴和浑厚,其行为与判断并非基于理性与逻辑,而是出于本心和直觉。默多克之所以塑造这样的善人形象,不仅是对唯我主义的批判,更是反思西方传统思想文化中导致价值虚无的根本症结的结果。她试图以小说艺术去呈现人与世界的真实并激发“善”的信仰,以期化解西方当代社会的道德危机。Tallis Browne in A Fairly Honourable Defeat is a prototype for the good figures in Iris Murdoch's later novels.Being humble,unselfish,and inarticulate,he loves others altruistically like"Christ".His personality and lifestyle are characterized by simplicity and profoundness.His behavior and judgment are not based on rationality and logic,but on his original mind and intuition.Murdoch's creation of such an image is not only a criticism of solipsism,but also the result of reflecting on the fundamental crux in traditional western philosophy that has caused the prevalent nihilism.With the art of fiction,she tries to present the reality of humanity and the world and inspire the faith of Good,so as to resolve the moral crisis in contemporary western society.
