人际功能视角下《围城》中情态助动词“能”的英译研究  

A Study of the Translation of Modal Auxiliary Verb "Neng" in Fortress Besieged from the Perspective of Interpersonal Function

摘　　要：研究以系统功能语言学的人际功能理论为框架,以珍妮·凯利和茅国权所译的《围城》汉英对照本为语料,分析与统计汉语情态助动词“能”在英译中人际意义的传递状况,从人际意义对等角度研究汉语情态助动词“能”的翻译运作机制。研究发现:运用灵活的翻译手段或转换策略可以准确呈现大多数“能”的人际意义;少数“能”的人际意义在语言转换过程中由于文化和表达方式的差异未能完整传递出来;个别“能”的人际意义在英译文中的传递发生语义偏误现象,从研究中可以获得传递情态助动词“能”的人际意义的一些启示。Based on the framework of the interpersonal function of the system function linguistics theory,the study analyzes the transmission condition of "neng" in respect of interpersonal meaning during translation process with Fortress Besieged as the corpus translated by Jenny Kelly and Nathan K.Mao,and aims to explore the translation mechanism of modal auxiliary verb "neng" from the perspective of interpersonal meaning equivalence.It finds that most of the interpersonal meanings of "neng" can be accurately presented through flexible translation means or strategies;some of interpersonal meanings of "neng" cannot be fully conveyed due to differences in culture and expression methods;and a few interpersonal meanings are conveyed in an incorrect way.Some inspirations about the interpersonal meaning transmission of "neng" can be obtained from the study.
