The characteristics of omics technology focusing on ‘integration’ is similar to the holistic concept of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM). This paper summarizes the current status of the application of omics technology in the study of microscopic indicators of TCM syndromes, and points out the limitations of the current research on microscopic indicators related to omics technology. The author believes that the core principle of the research on microscopic indicators of TCM syndrome is to break through the influence of reductionism, adhere to, and develop systematic thinking. The combination of multiomics technologies, combined use of various algorithms, and statistical methods;the co-construction of a data sharing platform, with the conferring of TCM meanings on micro-indicators can help to develop ‘micro-syndrome differentiation’ containing TCM thinking with the help of ‘micro-indicators’.
