从精神困境到精神顿悟——《阿拉比》象征性意象分析

摘　　要：《阿拉比》是乔伊斯的短篇小说集《都柏林人》中的名篇,以少年的视角,从人物的内心来描述都柏林的社会图景,展现出都柏林沉闷的生活氛围,与整部小说描绘的“瘫痪”主题呼应。通过研读《阿拉比》,剖析文中人物心理和丰富的象征性意象,揭示主人公在现实世界和内心世界的矛盾冲突,反映其如何在理想和现实中挣扎,最后用整体的意象来点明主人公的“顿悟”。这种象征性意象的写法开创了现代主义艺术手法,乔伊斯用意象纷呈展现了现代人的精神困境。Araby is a more famous short story of the Dubliner,reflecting Joyce’s modernist style.The images are compared in this novel to describe the real social environment from the protagonist’s perspective through the detailed descriptions of real world.By applying symbolic imagery to depict the character’s real and inner world conflicts,Araby reflects how the protagonist struggles in the ideal and reality,and finally the overall image has been linked with the protagonist’s epiphany.The style with large symbolic images written in Joyce’s novel is a typical modernist art,with specific images to express the spiritual plight of modern people.
