With the promotion of China’s Three-child Policy, the social-emotional development of infants has received increasing social attention.Understanding the characteristics of emotional processing in newborns and infants helps better the nurturing and parenting of these age groups.Research on the emotional processing biases of adults, infants and newborns has shown that newborns’emotional processing differs from that of adults and infants in that humans are born with a positive processing bias for emotional information and do not develop a negative bias for emotional processing until after the age of six months.Based on the social-emotional development of newborns and infants, multiple recommendations are offered to parents, early childhood education providers and childcare units regarding their practices to help them tailor their behavioural and cognitive care to the different developmental stages of infants in their care. These recommendations, based on empirical research evidence, provides a solid foundation for the healthy mental and physical development of infants, both nationally and internationally.
