摘 要:非洲首位诺奖桂冠作家沃莱·索因卡的《诠释者》,反映了非洲文学位于文化十字路口的矛盾状态和混杂性特征。这两种特性的判断来自后殖民批评对第三世界文学的深刻洞见,但后殖民理论有意无意间遮蔽了非洲文学中本土文化的核心参照点,并且日益显现其理论缺陷。本文在作家与人物角色两个层面上分别将“诠释者”理解为“文化翻译者”和“社会现实经验的诠释者”,分析其后殖民特征,但并不局限于后殖民批评方法与范式。相反,本文在质疑后殖民理论囿于西方话语的同时,还观照索因卡本人的“非洲世界观”哲思,探究其文化思想与文学创作中多元参照的本质,指出,在非洲文学批评中,打破西方单一参照标准的途径之一,是回归非洲本土传统,但并不排斥域外文化。The Interpreters,written by the 1986 Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka,mirrors the traits of ambivalence and hybridity that African literature at the cultural crossroads bears.These two features are rightly perceived by post-colonial critics who,however,unwittingly obscure the core reference point of African indigenous culture in literature and increasingly betray their theoretical defects.This article is to take the"interpreters"in The Interpreters as"cultural translators"and interpreters of social reality and experience,on two levels of the author and his characters respectively,and to analyze their post-coloniality but not confine the approaches to the typical post-colonial methodology and paradigm.While questioning post-colonial theories circumscribed within Western discourse,this paper examines the"African World View"proposed by Soyinka himself and inquires into the nature of multiple references featuring his cultural thoughts and creative writings,and points out that one of the ways to breach the standard based on single European reference is to resort to the African tradition without rejectingforeign cultures.
