花之安德语著述中的中国形象建构

摘  要:德国传教士花之安凭借丰富的中国研究著述跻身于19世纪来华汉学家之列,但他面向西方公众的德语著述却与其颇受赞誉的中文著述有显著差别。本文从东方主义批判的视角出发,聚焦花之安德语著述中对中国人、中国文化和中国社会的描述与评价。经分析发现,花之安基于传教士的身份和利益导向,以西方价值观为标准,使用具有殖民话语特征的叙事方式,通过对其在华经历和对华认知的选择性书写,建构出巨大的中西文化势差,并向西方公众推介经其剪裁加工的负面中国形象,从而唤起西方公众对按照西方模板改造中国这一文明使命的认同和支持,以助推在华传教士的根本任务——中国的基督教化。The German missionary Ernst Faber was famous among the sinologists who came to China in the 19th century for his extensive German-language writings on China,but his writings in German for the Western public differed markedly from his acclaimed writings in Chinese.From the perspective of critical Orientalism,this article focuses on Faber’s descriptions and evaluations of the Chinese people,culture and society in his German-language writings.The analysis reveals that,due to his identity and interests as a missionary,Faber took the Western values as the standard and adopted a narrative method characterized by colonial discourse.He constructed a huge cultural gap between the East and the West through his selective writings on his experiences in and perceptions of China and presented to the Western public a negative image of China that had been processed by him to evoke the recognition and support of the Western public for the cultural mission of transforming China in accordance with the Western model.His aim was to promote the fundamental task of missionaries in China:the Christianization of China.
