The Turquoise Ledge as a memoir is full of recollections of non-human beings on the earth rather than the narrator. Imbedded in the indigenous oral tradition of North America and employing her imaginative memories, Leslie Marmon Silko’s writing constructs the connection between human and nonhuman beings, in which the sense that “They watched me” becomes an overwhelming affective power in the narrator’s everyday life. Therefore, “I” exist through affective “intra-actions” with all the beings, the myth of everything becomes part of “my” real life and “I” feel embraced by the caring brotherhood or sisterhood with non-human beings through their daily existence. Silko’s reminiscences blur the boundaries between human and non-human, ultimately bringing about an intimate co-existence between them through her personal practice, and showing a viable way out of the dilemmas of everyday human life amid the environmental crisis.
