Objective To explore the effect of the popliteal fossa Kinesio taping on biomechanics of knees during landing. Methods Thirty healthy undergraduates(15 males and 15 females) performed a drop vertical jump(DVJ) before and after the application of the popliteal fossa Kinesio taping.Threedimensional kinematic and kinetic data of the knee joint were collected using the Vicon motion capture system and Kistler force plates simultaneously. Results The application of the popliteal fossa Kinesio taping significantly increased the knee flexion angle at the initial contact(P=0.001)and the maximum knee flexion angle(P=0.009),but significantly decreased the peak knee abduction moment(P=0.001) and the maximum vertical ground reaction force(P=0.001) right after landing. Conclusion The application of the popliteal fossa Kinesio taping increases knee flexion angle,as well as decreases the knee abduction moment and the vertical ground reaction force during landing. Therefore,it may be an effective measure to prevent anterior cruciate ligament injury.
