摘 要:对易卜生的批评,是萧伯纳戏剧理论的起点并贯穿其整个戏剧创作生涯。作为萧伯纳最早的易卜生评论文集,《易卜生主义的精髓》因过分强调易卜生剧作中的教化因素而忽略其诗意和艺术之美,对易卜生笔下人物的错误定位以及重在讲述事件而非阐述戏剧价值,很长时间以来备受冷落甚至指责,被认为是对易卜生的严重误读。结合萧伯纳写作此书时的特定目的和社会背景,萧伯纳的早期易卜生批评并非完全脱离了易卜生的创作初衷,他对易卜生的定位和作品解读不无道理,这种创造性的演绎,对易卜生在西方语境中的成型、对萧伯纳的戏剧创作乃至整个西欧现代戏剧改革,都起过重要作用。George Bernard Shaw's criticism on Henrik Ibsen is the starting point of his dramatic creation,which helps to constitute his own dramatic theories.However,as the earliest collection of his criticism essays,The Quintessence of Ibsenism has long been regarded by critics as a seriously misleading book about Ibsen,because Shaw attached too much importance to moral and social issues while neglecting poetic beauties in Ibsen's plays and read Ibsen as an anti-idealist.It argues that by taking the social background and Shaw's specific purpose in writing the essays into consideration,Shaw's early Ibsen criticism is not a ridiculous misinterpretation at all,rather it has values in introducing Ibsen to the British audiences,elaborating the relations between Ibsen and English theater as well as declaring Shaw's own principles on playwriting in the reform of modern drama.
