摘　　要：百年之前,国立东南大学首次设置“西洋文学”教授岗位,并创建我国首个“西洋文学系”,我国高等教育体系由此诞生一个全新而独立的学科,即今日所称的“比较文学”学科。这一学科建制的设置具有开创性的历史意义,不仅极大地推动了国内学界对比较文学、东西方思想文化的教学研究,培养出一批学贯中西的高水平人才,更使“西洋文学”这一独特的学科领域在国内高校流行开来。由于迄今学界在论及比较文学在中国的发展时,往往忽略这个十分重要的历史事件,因此,有必要对这一段学科史进行重新稽考,钩沉这个全新学科建制的学术意义与文化意义。About one century ago,an unprecedented professorship in“Western Literature”was launched by National Southeast University,which led to the setup of the firstever Department of Western Literature.It marked the birth of a novel and independent discipline in China's higher education history,the established Comparative Literature today.The discipline's farreaching significance manifested itself variously in effectively promoting the research and pedagogy in the fields of comparative literature and culture between East and West,cultivating a good many extraordinary talents,and popularizing the subject among Chinese universities.As the significance of this trailblazing event often gets ignored in studying the history of Comparative Literature in China,this essay,by delving into historical archives,unfolds the academic and cultural significance of the brandnew discipline.
