北京大学早期东方学图书资料建设的历程

摘　　要：1946年8月建立的北京大学东方语文学系是国内高校第一家建制化的东方学专业系所。该系的建立和发展有赖于北京大学长期以来的东方学图书资料建设。在1917—1946年间,北大学者关注东方学图书,采用零散购买、赠送、交换或长期借取的方式,逐渐积累。建系之后到1952年高校院系调整之时,该系通过购买陈寅恪的一批珍稀东方学藏书、委托学者从海外代购、师觉月等外国学者批量赠书、国内学者的小额赠送,以及国立东方语文专科学校合并带来的图书等资料,有效扩展和丰富了东方学图书资料的馆藏,并建立了专门的图书室,有力支持了学科建设。这些经历显示了北大学人对东方学建设的持久心愿和对学科发展的卓绝努力。回顾这些东方学图书的流散和积累,挖掘其背后的"书人共生"的故事,尤其是梳理图书的"活的生命"历程,可以为理解中国早期东方学的艰难发展历程,提供学科史新的思考路径。Founded in August 1946,the Department of Oriental Languages and Literature at National University of Peking was the first institutionalized faculty of oriental studies in domestic universities.Its establishment and development depended upon the long-term construction of books and materials as regards oriental studies at PKU.From 1917 to 1946,the books of oriental studies,to which PKU scholars attached significance,were gradually accumulated by means of minor purchase,bestowal,exchange or longstanding borrowing.It was between the founding of the department and the adjustment of departments in universities and colleges of the country in 1952 that the department bought a number of rare books on oriental studies in Tschen Yin Koh's collection,commissioned scholars to purchase from overseas,and obtained access to books given in sheer or small volume respectively by foreign scholars including Prabodhi Chandra Bagachi or domestic colleagues,and National College of Oriental Language and Literature integrated into the department brought some books on oriental studies as well,all through which the collection of books and materials regarding oriental studies was effectually enlarged and enriched,a special branch of library was set up,and additionally the disciplinary construction acquired strong support.The evolution manifests the PKU scholars'persistent willingness and unwavering dedication to the development of oriental studies as a subject.Based on reexamining how the books relating to oriental studies have been scattered and built up,and unearthing the underlying stories of "book-people symbiosis",especially with combing through the"living lives"of the books,a new approach concerning the history of disciplines is reckoned to be provided for understanding the tough early stages of oriental studies in China.
