摘　　要：“传奇”一词在拜厄特《占有》中具有导读性地位。借助于传奇在形式、选材与时空层面的自由灵动,《占有》打破了惯常圈囿小说形式的藩篱,以“帕里斯的选择”为元故事,演绎出兼容格林童话、维多利亚浪漫传奇及当代学者探秘历程的系列框架故事,显示出基于直觉的尚秘好奇心对激情生命的“财富”意义。通过勾勒当代学者追寻逝者传奇的不同路径,小说批判了西方后现代文化取道“占有”或物化逝者世界在“彼时”与“此时”之间建立联系的徒劳,提示尚秘好奇心不仅可能引领人们真正步入逝者的精神世界,而且能够激发生命的活力与热情。“Romance” occupies a guiding position in interpreting A.S.Byatt’s Possession. By resorting to the free and flexible features of romance in form, material, time and space, Possession breaks the barriers of the conventional fictional form, takes “the choice of Paris” as the metastory, and evolves into a series of frame stories that blend ancient Greek myths, Grimm’s fairy tales, Victorian romance and contemporary scholars’ quests for romance in the dead, incrementally highlighting the great value of intuition-based mystery-pursuing curiosity about passionate life. In addition, the different approaches contemporary scholars take to get close to the past further explicitly illustrate the implicit pun meaning of the novel’s paratext, i.e., it is hard for people to establish a connection between “a bygone time” and “the very present” via the mode of “possession”, while mystery-pursuing curiosity may not only guide people to truly understand the spiritual world of the deceased, but also bring them the wealth that can nourish life’s passion and vitality.
