The"empty-heartedness disease"characterized by a sense of emptiness is considered as a mental disorder specific to modern college students. From a psychiatric point of view, the feeling of emptiness is universal and long-standing among all people, and is not always directly related to psychopathology.Like many other non-specific symptoms,it is neither a necessary nor sufficient reason for making a definitive diagnosis. It may occur in borderline personality disorder, depression, nonsuicidal self-injury,suicide,and a variety of other psychiatric disorders. The influence of emptiness is not completely negative.Though the feelings of emptiness can be filled by people's decadent and indulgent lifestyle, people can also overcome the feelings of emptiness by giving meaning to their lives through a positive lifestyle.
