克莱特与甲戌本缩微胶卷

摘　　要：美国哥伦比亚大学图书馆与国会图书馆两套胶卷,同为最原始的乾隆甲戌本《脂砚斋重评石头记》缩微胶卷。在此胶卷订单影像上留下英文姓氏Mr.Claytor的克莱特先生,是华盛顿国会图书馆东方部主任助理,是美国非洲裔汉学家第一人,是迄今所知零距离接触甲戌本原书的外国学者第一人。他还是甲戌本缩微胶卷的玉成者,是出面具名的承办人。他和他的所作所为是中美文化交流史上的一段红学插曲,一则汉学佳话。甲戌本上某些墨笔批语与附条字迹非常接近,当同出一手。The two sets of the microfilms in Columbia University Library and the Library of Congress are both the most original copies of Version 1754(Jiaxu Volume during the reign of the Qianlong emperor)of Zhi Yanzhai Re-evaluates the Story of the Stone(A Dream of Red Mansions).Mr.Claytor,who left his surname in English on the order image of this film,was the assistant director of the Oriental Division of the Library of Congress in W ashing-ton,D.C.,the first African American sinologist and the first foreign scholar known to have come into direct con-tact with the original book.He was also the person who helped to have accomplished the microfilms as the named caterer.He himself and what he did was a beautiful interlude of the studies of Hongloumeng and a good story of si-nology in the history of cultural exchanges between China and the United States.Some of the ink-penciled comments on the book of Version 1754 are very close to the handwriting of the accompanying note,so they might be written by the same person.
