Does Family Involvement Promote or Inhibit Innovation?——A Meta-Analysis of Evidence Based on Chinese Firms

摘　　要：基于84篇以中国A股家族企业为样本的实证文献开展元分析,发现家族涉入会抑制企业的创新投入和产出,并且创新投入是家族涉入抑制创新产出的中介变量。另外,梳理了政府关系、独立董事、机构投资者持股、国际化和市场化等内、外部治理机制在家族涉入对创新活动影响中发挥的调节机制。最后,还将元分析对象拓展至中国台湾地区企业,试图为家族涉入对企业创新影响研究提供中国文化情境下的区域差异证据。文章通过梳理中国家族企业创新的现有研究成果获得了相对稳健的一般性结论,为未来深化研究提供了方向。A meta-analysis based on 84 empirical papers with a sample of Chinese A-share family firms finds that family's involvement inhibits firm's innovation inputs and outputs,and that innovation inputs are the mediating variable of family involvement inhibiting innovation outputs.In addition,internal and external governance mechanisms such as political ties,independent directors,institutional investors'shareholding,internationalization and marketization are identified as moderating mechanisms in the impact of family involvement on innovation activities.Finally,the meta-analysis is extended to firms in Taiwan,China,in an attempt to provide evidence of regional differences in the Chinese cultural context for the study of the impact of family involvement on firm innovation.The article obtains relatively robust general conclusions by combing existing research results on family firm innovation in China,which provides directions for further research in the future.
