摘  要:1925年,美国汉学家卡特所著《中国印刷术发明及其西传》是世界范围内第一本系统介绍中国印刷术历史及其传播、影响的研究专著。该著初版出版至今,英文原著版本和译本版本共有9个,各个版本的修订及各语种译本均由学界有影响力的学者操刀。当前的传统版本研究主要关注点在版本内部,较少注意版本生成与社会文化方面的关系,为此,论文考察该书的著述及出版过程,勾勒还原印刷术发明地位话语确权前后的人物关系图谱,比较版本递修流变得失,分析原著多个版本印刷特征。这一过程是从学术场建构到社会文化符号的建立。印刷术是文本对象也是建构工具,版本嬗变体现出强大的文化动力。In 1925 American sinologist Thomas Francis Carter wrote The Invention of Printing in China and Its Spread Westward.It was the first research monograph that systematically introduce the history of Chinese printing,its dissemination,and its impact.Since the first edition of the book was published,there have been nine versions in English and translations.All versions,including translations,have been produced by influential scholars.Traditional edition studies primarily focus on the internal aspects of editions while paying less attention to the relationship between the creation of editions and social culture.This paper examines the writing and publishing process of the book,then maps the relationships among the people involved.It compares the changes of revised editions and weighs the pros and cons.It analyzes the printing characteristics of multiple editions of the original book.This process starts with the construction of the academic field and ends with the establishment of social and cultural symbols.Printing is both a text object and a construction tool.The transmutation of editions reflects powerful cultural dynamics,emphasizing an overall view of editions.
