知青小说《鸣咽的澜沧江》在英语世界的译介与接受研究

摘　　要：竹林是凭借知青小说走入文坛的当代女作家。她的《生活的路》是我国“文革”后第一部反映知青生活的长篇小说,她的第二部知青小说《鸣咽的澜沧江》也取得了一定的反响。作为作家,竹林并没有进入当代中国作家主流,但相比之下,她在海外受到更多关注,引起海外学者的研究兴趣。竹林小说在创作手法上比较传统,当时为中国作家广为借鉴和使用的意识流手法在她的小说中没有体现。那么竹林小说受到海外中国文学界关注的原因到底是什么?本文将以《鸣咽的澜沧江》英译本为研究案例,介绍这部小说在英语世界的刊载和译介情况,分析竹林小说获得海外青睐的原因和背景。研究发现,海外汉学家理查德·金作为汉学家以及中国香港《译丛》的编译者,译介了竹林的八篇小说,在推介竹林小说乃至知青文学方面功不可没。另外,作为知青小说,小说的苦难叙事、女性叙事以及身体叙事是使《鸣咽的澜沧江》一度比同时代其他小说收获更多海外关注度的主要原因。Zhulin is a contemporary female writer who entered the literary scene of contemporary Chinese literature by means of novels on the educated youth dispatched to the countryside for re-education.Her novel The Path of Life is the first novel to reflect the life of educated youth after the“Cultural Revolution”,and her second novel The Sobbing Lancang River has also gained popularity.But as a writer,she has not been included into the mainstream contemporary Chinese writers.In contrast,quite a few of her works have been translated into English and made their way into anthologies of English translations of contemporary Chinese literature,or published in overseas literary journals.Zhulin's fictions are relatively traditional in terms of writing techniques,and the stream-of consciousness technique widely used by Chinese writers at that time is not reflected in her novels.Why have Zhulin's novels atracted the attention of international scholars and translators of Chinese literature?This article will take The Sobbing Lancang River for a case study to explore into the publication and translation of this novel in the English-speaking world,and analyze the reasons why the novel was so favored overseas.It is found that Richard King,an overseas sinologist and editor for Hong Kong Renditions jourmnal,greatly contributed to the promotion of Zhulin's works in particular and educated youth literature as a whole.In addition,in educated youth literature,a theme combining suffering narrative,female narrative and body narrative is the main reason why The Sobbing Lancang River gained more overseas atention than the writer's contemporaries.
