“循环”的历史叙事——库柏的共同体书写研究

摘　　要：库柏的历史小说与主流的历史叙事之间存在复杂的对话关系。库柏拒斥主流叙事的线性思维模式,不认可其进步论的线性历史观以及狭隘民族主义的民族政策,而是秉持循环历史观,认为人性的贪婪与暴殄的行径将会加速帝国走向衰落,主张建立超越种族与一元文化的多民族多文化国家。因此,库柏在作品中改写了历史重要人物之行为动机,将“西进”处理为“西逃”,并揭露了被主流叙事所蓄意掩盖的“暴力”与“悲剧”,展现了以平等主义与同情共感为基础的共同体理想。两种历史叙事体现了两种对过去、当下、未来的“共同体”建设的不同看法。There exists a complex dialogue between Cooper's historical fictions and the Grand Narrative.Cooper rejects the linear mode embodied in the mainstream discourse,the linear historical view of progressivism and the narrow nationalism.Instead,he upholds a circular view of history,arguing that human greed and their tyrannical acts will accelerate the decline of the Empire.Thus,he advocates a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural state that transcends racism and monoculture by rewriting the"motives"of the important historical figures and replacing the"westward-advance"narrative with"westward-flee"narrative.Besides,he reveals the"violence"and"tragedies"deliberately concealed by the Grand Narrative,depicting his ideal community based on egalitarianism and sympathetic empathy.The two historical narratives embody two different views of the"community"in the past,the present,and the future.
