摘　　要：城市为人类渴望美好生活提供了空间。千禧年后世界经济的普遍发展,在历史上首次让全球绝大多数人口成为城市居民。随之而来的各种“城市”研究已成为人文社会科学领域新的焦点。在形形色色的城市学说中,刘易斯·芒福德的思想再次成为学术前沿。虽然对他的评价在其身前身后一直莫衷一是,但这些争议更多地表明当下城市学界的傲慢与偏见。如何从一系列相关争论和辨析中,深入领会和理解芒福德以“诗性精神”为基础构想“人类家园”伟大理念的意义所在,这已成为我们必须解决的问题。与卡尔·马克思提出“改造世界”的畅想一样,芒福德基于“城市的作用在于改造人”的立场倡导创建“诗性城市”,呈现了广阔的文明史视野和生态学愿景。在根本上,一座城市的改变不仅意味着生活场所的改变,更意味着生存目的之改变。事实说明,芒福德充满人文情怀的思想遗产对当下我国的城市化进程具有十分重要的指导意义。Cities provide the space for people to aspire to a better life.For the first time in history,the generalized growth of the global economy since the turn of the millennium has made the vast majority of the world’s population urban dwellers.As a result,the study of“cities”has become a new focus in the humanities and social sciences,and amidst urban doctrines of all shapes and sizes,Lewis Mumford’s ideas are once again at the forefront of scholarship.While his reputation has been divided in his wake,the controversies are more indicative of the arrogance and prejudice of the current urban academic community.From a series of related debates and analyses,it has become a problem that we need to resolve in order to deeply understand and grasp the meaning of Mumford’s great concept of“habitat for humanity”based on the“poetic spirit”.Like Karl Marx’s vision of“transforming the world”,Mumford advocates the creation of a“poetic city”based on the position that“the role of the city is to transform man”,presenting a broad vision of the history of civilization and ecology.The facts show that Mumford’s legacy of humanistic thinking is of great significance in guiding the process of urbanization in China today.
