During the development of shale gas,a large amount of fracturing flowback fluid will be produced. This type of wastewater has attracted wide attention due to its high biological toxicity, poor biodegradability and dificult to treat. If reused without treatment,it will bring potential harm and risk to the environment and ecosystem. This article summarizes and analyzes the research progress of the biological toxicity of this kind of sewage to aquatic and terrestrial organisms, and expounds that salt, metals, and organic components are the main causes of biological toxicity.Based on this research,it is necessary to strengthen the identification and analysis of the characteristic pollutants of the flowback fluid in the future, improve the analysis of the toxic mechanism, and pay attention to practical issues such as the reuse of the flowback fluid and changes in biological toxicity. It is expected to provide a scientific basis for the treatment of oil and gas development wastewater and ecological environment protection.
