In the 1930s in Shanghai, pirated books appeared intensively.A large number of publishing houses participated in book piracy. This article takes Longhu bookstore as an example. It examines the literary books it pirated, and sorts out its copyright disputes with agencies like Children's Publishing House,Kaiming Book Company,Beixin Publishing House, and authors like Xia Mianzun,Xu Tiaofu,Zheng Xiaocang and Lu Xun.Although Longhu Bookstore's piracy was undoubtedly despised by the publishing industry,it played a certain role in disseminating literary books among the lower class.Because it pirated a lot of progressive writers' works,it somehow helped undermine Kuomingtang government's cultural encirclement and suppression. The intensive piracy of literary books in the 1930s disturbed the operation of legal publishing agencies, endangered the survival of some modern writers, and seriously hindered the healthy development of modern literature.
