摘  要:学海堂是晚清时期广东最负盛名的高等学府,它不设山长(类似于校长),只设学长(类似于首席教授),由学长轮流代行校长职责,在当时的官办学堂中独树一帜。其“学长制”教学管理模式与“教授治校”本质特征一致,是中国本土传统书院模式的“教授治校”。学界一般认为中国的“教授治校”始于京师大学堂,而学海堂的“学长制”将中国“教授治校”的起始时间提前了大半个世纪。此管理模式由八位学长组团对学堂进行轮值管理,摒弃为科举办学的目的,由学长按其研究所长进行细分科目教学,培养实学人才,走出一条独特办学之路。Xuehai School was the most prestigious higher education institution in Guangdong during the late Qing Dynasty.It did not have a principal,but only a senior(similar to a chief professor)who took turns to perform the duties of the principal.It stood out among the official schools at that time.The“seniori-ty system”teaching management model is consistent with the essential characteristics of“professor gover-nance”,and is the“professor governance”of the traditional Chinese academy model.The academic commu-nity generally believes that China’s“professor governance”began with the Beijing University,while the“senior system”of Xuehai School advanced the start of China’s“professor governance”by more than half a century.This management model is managed by a group of eight senior students in rotation,abandoning the purpose of running a school for the imperial examination.The senior students are divided into subject teach-ing according to their research institute,cultivating practical talents bringing various inspirations to the current education system reform and exploring a unique path to education.
