摘 要:美国苗族作家杨嘉莉的代表作《梦归家园:一部苗族家庭回忆录》是美国苗族英语文学“里程碑”式的作品。通过一个普通的苗族家庭,这部作品反映了整个美国苗族群体从老挝到泰国难民营,最后作为难民定居美国的流散经历。在此过程中,作为“他者”的美国苗族群体的身份认同经历了身份迷失、身份冲突和身份重建,在不同代际之间呈现出身份认同的转变。苗人的身份认同从以杨嘉莉奶奶、爸爸和妈妈为代表的苗1代的苗族,转变为以朵和杨嘉莉为代表的苗1.5代的美国苗族,再转变为以杨嘉莉的弟弟妹妹们为代表的苗2代的苗裔美国人。作为流散者的美国苗族群体所追寻的身份认同不是单一的文化身份认同,而是多元的、动态的、不断建构的身份认同。The Latehomercomer:a Hmong Family Memoir is the representative work of Kao Kalia Yang,a rising star for Hmong American literature.As the landmark of Hmong American literature,this work reflects the diaspora experience of the Hmong community.They fled from Laos to Ban Vinai in Thailand,and finally settled in the United States of America as refugees.During this process,the identity of Hmongs as the"other"has gone through identity loss,identity conflicts and identity reconstruction,showing the transformation of their identities among different generations.First-generation Hmong Americans,represented by Kao Kalia Yang's grandma and parents,identify with the Hmong culture;generation 1.5,represented by Dawb and Kao Kalia Yang,accept their identity as American Hmong;and the identity of second-generation Hmong Americans(represented by Kao Kalia Yang's younger brothers and sisters)is Hmong American.As the diaspora community,the identity that Hmong Americans pursue is not a single cultural identity,but a pluralistic,dynamic,and continuously constructed identity.
