摘　　要：该文是对即将出版的译著《杨布里科斯著〈毕达哥拉斯的生平〉》的导读。该译著涉及大量古希腊语境的语词表述,针对部分国内读者可能对于毕达哥拉斯所处的古希腊社会的认识不足。该文从地理观念、宗教观念和政治观念3个方面提供了一些补充说明,认为毕达哥拉斯所处的古希腊社会具有以下3种张力:(1)由地理观念而来的海洋与陆地之间的张力;(2)由文化观念而来的父与子之间的张力;(3)由政治观念而来的民众与精英之间的张力。认识这3种张力可以有助于人们理解《杨布里科斯著〈毕达哥拉斯的生平〉》一书,也有助于理解古希腊文化。This article is a guide to the translation of The Life of Pythagoras.In view of the lack of understanding of the ancient Greek society of Pythagoras,this paper provides some supplementary explanations from the three aspects of geography,religious concept and political concept.This paper holds that the ancient Greek society in which Pythagoras lived has the following three tensions.First,the tension between the sea and the land derived from the concept of geography.Second,tension between fathers and sons derived from cultural ideas.Third,tension between the people and the elites derived from political ideas.Knowing these three tensions can help us understand The Life of Pythagoras and the ancient Greek culture.
