典籍英译中的传神达意——以汪榕培《陶渊明集》英译本为例

摘　　要：“传神达意”是国内著名翻译大师汪榕培所倡导且践行的典籍英译标准及策略。陶渊明诗歌是中华民族的文学瑰宝,展现了中华文明独特的魅力,深受国内外读者喜爱。该文以汪榕培《陶渊明集》英译本为案例,通过翔实的例证分析,从表层含义、深层含义、外在形式、内在节奏韵律以及诗歌意象等方面入手,深入探讨了汪榕培如何在典籍英译中做到传神达意,希望对中国文化“走出去”大背景下的典籍英译事业有所启发。“Conveying the sense via transmitting the spirit”is a translation principle as well as a translation strategy proposed and exercised by Professor Wang Rongpei,a renowned domestic expert translator of the ancient Chinese classics.Tao Yuanming's poetry,the gem of Chinese literature,well embodies the unique charm of Chinese civilization and therefore has been well received by the readers home and abroad.With a case study of Wang's English rendition of The Complete Works of Tao Yuanming,the present paper,based on the concrete examples,tries to examine the vivid reproduction of the surface meaning,deep meaning,external form,internal rhyme as well as the imagery of the original poems and then explore how Professor Wang brought his translation principle into successful play,which may hopefully shed some light on the translation of the ancient Chinese classics in the drive of Chinese culture going global.
