This paper examines the 1935—1936 International Exhibition of Chinese Art,held from November 281935 to March 71936 at The Royal Academy of Arts in London,Britain.Utilizing archival materials and historical photographs from both Britain and China, the study emphasizes Shanghai's notable contribution to this influential exhibition. The seemingly incongruous relationship between London and Shanghai in the 1930s proved to be mutually enriching, marked by shared experiences, mutual learning, and recognition. The second focus is on the art mobilization within the exhibition. The intentional decontextualization and re-contextualization of Chinese artwork, coupled with strategic shifts in locations and occasions, converted these exhibits into potent symbols affirming the legitimacy of the Chinese government and fostering a positive national image. This dynamic process imbued these objects with rich meanings, contributing to the overall success and impact of the exhibition.
