This paper, based on observations and interviews in Durham,UK,explores how local buskers use different strategies in their performances, considering the environment of the streets and the behavior of pedestrians. It looks into the skills buskers use to engage audiences, reflecting how they understand and navigate their somewhat marginalized position in society.By incorporating ecological theories and real-life observations, the paper suggests that busking is not just a performance but a practice deeply connected to the environment. It explains how buskers adapt to urban streets, creating connections and interactions with strangers.Additionally, buskers deliberately distance themselves from stereotypes, presenting themselves as neither beggars nor purely profit-driven,aiming to create a positive public perception of their trade. The essay's focus on the relational aspects of busking adds valuable insights to the study of street performance from both a personal and environmental perspective.
