摘 要:进入21世纪尤其是近十年来,欧美修辞、政治、传播、哲学及话语、文化研究等领域的学者对宣传(propaganda)再度产生浓厚的兴趣并争相在当代语境内重新审视及思考宣传实践,反思对这一重要政治社会实践的既有认识,宣传研究业已成为这些学科的一个热门研究方向。与第二次世界大战后到后冷战初期的相关学术出版相比较,近期欧美宣传研究的成果不仅数量成倍增长,所提出的论述在深度、广度以及创新性方面都有明显突破。随着宣传研究成长为一个热门的跨学科研究领域,修辞及其他学科在其框架内通过相互碰撞、融通、组合而形成的不同视角还明显提高了人们对宣传实践的复杂性及多面性的认识,促成宣传研究的范式转换,并对修辞研究本身提出了一系列具有挑战性的问题。本文梳理了欧美学者对这一重要话语实践的重新定位,希望有助于更新中国修辞学人对西方学术界“宣传”观的了解,丰富我们对宣传与修辞关系的认识。Since the beginning of the 21st century and especially in the past decade or so,Western scholars in the fields of rhetoric,political science,communication,philosophy,discourse and cultural studies have taken a renewed interest in the conception of propaganda.With more and more researchers across humanities and social sciences engaged in reexamining this crucial socio-political practice and reflecting on the assumptions underlying its conceptualization,propaganda has become a trendy academic subject.Recent publications on propaganda have shown an impressive development both quantitively and qualitatively in comparison with those published up to the beginning of the 21st century.The shaping up of propaganda studies as an interdisciplinary area of inquiry in its own right,and the synergetic interactions among the diverse disciplinary points of view being brought to bear on the subject,have yielded innovative propositions and fresh perspectives,casting light on the multi-dimensional and multi-faceted character of the concept,adding significantly to the depth and breadth of the West's understanding of propaganda,and in turn posing some challenging questions to rhetorical studies,of which propaganda studies remains a sub-field.
