Objective To explore the clinical effect of passive soothing music on improving sleep condition in elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment. Methods A total of 61 elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group. The control group was given routine health education, while the experimental group was given passive listening therapy of 30 minutes of soothing music 5 times a week for 6 weeks on the basis of routine health education. The sleep conditions before and after the intervention were assessed with the Athens Insomnia Scale. Results Before treatment, there was no statistically significant difference in the scores of Athens insomnia scale between the control group and the experimental group. After treatment, the scores of Athens insomnia scale in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(Cohen's d value:1.271).The scores of Athens insomnia scale in the experimental group after treatment were significantly higher than those before treatment(P<0.01).There was no significant difference in the scores of Athens insomnia scale before and after treatment in the control group. Conclusion Passive listening to soothing music has a better effect on sleep improvement in elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment.
