摘 要:“侠义”精神是武侠小说的核心,其形象在域外的呈现会影响武侠文化、武侠小说的传播以及我国国家形象建构。然而目前学界对“侠义”形象在域外的呈现关注度不够。本文以形象学内部研究为理论框架、以闵福德英译《鹿鼎记》为案例,探究译者所采用的翻译策略与“侠义”形象建构的互相作用机制。研究发现,译者运用四种方法处理“侠义”词汇,主要采用直译和增译的方法处理“侠义”情节,以达到传播中国武侠文化的目的。闵福德英译《鹿鼎记》为“侠义”形象在西方的传播提供了一个良好的参照面。The spirit of“xiayi”is the core of martial arts novels,and the presentation of its image outside China will affect the spread of martial arts culture,martial arts novels and the construc⁃tion of China’s national image.At present,the academic circle does not pay enough attention to the presentation of the image of“xiayi”outside China.Based on the intrinsic analysis of imago⁃logy as the theoretical framework and Minford’s translation of The Deer and the Cauldron as a case study,this paper explores the interplay between the translation strategies adopted by the translator and the construction of the image of“xiayi”.The study finds that Minford used four methods to deal with words related to“xiayi”,and mainly used literal translation and additional translation to deal with related plots,so as to spread Chinese martial arts culture.Minford’s translation of The Deer and the Cauldron provides a good reference for the spread of the image of“xiayi”in the West.
