Objective In this study, the most appropriate orthodontic force system was obtained by applying different magnitudes of orthodontic force to the normal alveolar bone group, the mild resorption group, and the moderate resorption group, respectively. Methods A normal alveolar bone height(normal group)was established.By deleting the bone tissues, the alveolar bone heights of the posterior teeth were reduced by 2 mm and 4 mm to obtain mild resorption group and moderate resorption group,on which orthodontic force sizes were applied at 60 g,80 g,100 g,and 150 g,respectively. The distributions of the initial periodontal membrane stresses and the initial total tooth displacements of the teeth in each posterior group were analyzed. Results As the orthodontic force increased, the total displacement of the teeth in the posterior group increased, and the periodontal membrane Von Mises stress gradually increased. When the alveolar bone by resorbed by 4 mm,the stress and the initial total displacement of the teeth increased significantly with the increase of orthodontic force. Conclusion The orthodontic force should be appropriately reduced in patients with mild alveolar bone loss, and significantly reduced in patients with moderate alveolar bone loss.
