摘 要:林乐知在创办中西书院的过程中努力实践“中西并重”的教育观。虽然林乐知的本质仍然是基督教文化的传播者,但他到中国以后通过学习、研究中国语言、文化,对中国传统文化有了相当程度的了解和理解,其中显示的他的知识适应性和文化适应性超越了同时代的其他传教士。因而他对中国古代书院文化的传承与嬗变,是中西书院之所以取得办学影响,至今仍有回顾和研究价值的原因。Young John Allen adopted an educational philosophy that placed equal importance to both Eastern and Western culture,and he endeavored to put it into practice.Upon his arrival in China,he studied Chinese language and culture and acquired a considerable degree of knowledge and understanding of traditional Chinese culture.Though he spread Christian culture,he surpassed his clerical contemporaries in terms of intellectual adaptation and cultural suitability.Hence,he actively transformed the system of ancient Chinese school while passed down its traditions and customs from generation to generation.Therefore,the Anglo-Chinese college has achieved the influence that is still worthy of review and research today.
