After the First World War,the establishment of Chinese schools in the colonial territories in Southeast Asia began to flourish, and many of the Chinese schools produced poetic school songs. The lyrics of the school songs showed not only the traditional lyrical aesthetic characteristics of the ancient style, but also the local customs of tropical sights, conveying the traditional humanistic values based on Confucianism. This paper, taking Chinese schools in Singapore as a case and the commemorative publications and journals of these schools published regularly or irregularly as the main source of literature, examines the language policy of Singapore during its political process and change from a British colony to an independent state, and also the transformation of the traditional Chinese schools that had originally copied the modern Chinese education system and carried the consciousness of overseas Chinese into"Special Assistance Plan Schools",which are the spiritual legacy of the traditional Chinese school in sense. With the intervention and operation of state power, the aesthetic, cultural, and political connotations of Chinese school songs have changed or remained unchanged, which also reflects the complex construction of Singaporean Chinese identity.
