In the Edo period, woodblock prints reached a peak of development, and Japanese Chinese poetry also entered a golden age of development. The abundance of images changed the way Edo literati accepted classical Chinese poetry. As a typical representative of the integration of poetry and painting,Wang Wei had abundant visual materials during the Edo period, which had certain literary and artistic value in the study of Wang Wei's poetry reception in Edo.For the receiving activity itself, images have the functions of narrowing the psychological distance between the receiving subject and object, stimulating the enthusiasm of the creative subject, generating an"advertising effect",and promoting the establishment of the classic nature of Wang Wei's poetry. In the Edo period, images became an important way for Wang Wei to receive poetry, which was closely related to the"picturesque"characteristics of his poetry, the development of southern painting, the deeply rooted concept of"unity of poetry and painting",and the love of Edo citizens for paintings.Introducing images into Wang Wei's research allows for dialogue and exchange between literary history and art history, deepening and enriching previous studies and exploring new research topics. It also opens up a window for us to study the reception of images and classical Chinese poetry from the Edo period in Japan.
