东印度公司与《名利场》中的帝国书写

摘　　要：19世纪初英国东印度公司已经从一家贸易公司转变为对印度进行殖民统治的管理实体,其征课的赋税成为英帝国殖民掠夺的主要财源。萨克雷的《名利场》以东印度公司为背景批判了英国社会追名逐利的众生丑态,同时揭示了海外殖民和帝国主义行径对英国社会的腐蚀作用。运用马克思有关殖民批评理论以及赛义德后殖民主义理论分析小说中来自东印度公司的帝国财源、殖民主义的反噬效应和海外驻军的霸权主义,可以更好地揭示小说中无处不在的帝国意识和殖民思想,证明东印度公司在英帝国主义殖民体系构建中所起的关键作用。At the beginning of the 19th century,the British East India Company had transformed from a trading company into a ruling organization in India,and the taxes it levied became the main source of income for the colonial plunder of the British Empire.William M.Thackeray s novel Vanity Fair sets the East India Company as the background.The novel not only satirizes and criticizes the ugliness of all beings who pursue fame and fortune in British society,but also reveals the corrosive effect of overseas colonization and imperialism on British society.This paper applies Marx′s theory of colonial criticism and Edward Said′s theory of post-colonialism to analyze the imperial financial resources of the East India Company,the backlash effect of colonialism and the hegemonic characteristics of overseas troops.It also explores the ubiquitous imperial consciousness in the novel and colonial ideas,and showcases the key role played by the East India Company in the construction of the British imperialist colonial system.
