摘　　要：本文通过搜集、整理涉及杭州文化的英语资料,尝试梳理杭州文化在英语世界传播的大致脉络。13世纪末马可·波罗对“行在”的赞美,使杭州受到西方人的注意。20世纪出版的《马可·波罗游记》几种重要英译本,间接助推了杭州文化的传播。1949年前英美传教士记述杭州的地理风景和市井生活,丰富了英美人士对杭州文化的认识。1949年后,西方学者和华裔学者成了传播主体,传播载体以学术著述和报刊文章为主,传播内容涉及杭州物质文化和非物质文化的方方面面。今日杭州的国际影响力与杭州文化在英语世界的传播密不可分。This paper aims to examine the dissemination of Hangzhou culture in the English-speaking world by sorting out English-language materials currently available to the author.In the late 13th century,the Venetian traveler Marco Polo’s somewhat exaggerated praise for Quinsay,i.e.capital of Southern Song,attracted European attention to Hangzhou.Several major English versions of Marco Polo’s travels published in the 20th century helped introduce Hangzhou culture to Anglophones.Prior to 1949,the intimate records of Hangzhou by some British and American missionaries who once resided in the city enriched people’s understanding of its cultural scene.Thereafter,the task of disseminating Hangzhou culture was left mostly to western and overseas Chinese scholars,who published their works in either book form or journals.These publications deal with various aspects of Hangzhou culture,both material and immaterial.It is suggested that the global impact Hangzhou enjoys today owes much to the dissemination of Hangzhou culture in the English-speaking world.
