To elucidate the influence mechanism of living arrangements on the skeletal muscle health of rural older adults, based on data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey(CHNS),this study focuses on examining the relationship between living arrangements and skeletal muscle health of rural older adults,as well as the mediating role of dietary quality in the relationship between the two.Research has found that:(1)Living with spouse(without children)are beneficial for the skeletal muscle health of older adults, while living alone or with children(without a spouse)is not conducive to their skeletal muscle health.(2)The heterogeneity test results indicate that living with spouse(without children)have a more significant effect on improving skeletal muscle health in the young old adults, but have no significant effect on the oldest-old.(3)Dietary quality can play a mediating role in the relationship between living arrangements and skeletal muscle health in older adults.Living with spouse(without children)suppress dietary imbalance in older people, thereby promoting skeletal muscle health in older adults.
