摘　　要：Xizang won peaceful liberation in May 1951, and experienced the democratic reform in 1959 which brought to an end the theocratic feudal serfdom that had endured. In 1965, Xizang Autonomous Region was established,and the socialist system has since prevailed in that part of China. Following the introduction of the reform and opening-up program in 1978, the drive for modernization has brought extensive benefits to Xizang as much as to any other part of the country. With the full-out support of the national government, a thriving autonomous region has appeared.
