Black sesame is abundant in sesamin and pinoresinol, possessing the capacity to nourish the spleen, lung, liver, kidney, and hair. The pigmentation of hair is intricately linked to the activity of tyrosinase,an enzyme that stimulates melanin production in the melanocytes of hair follicles. The study investigated the impact of sesamin, pinoresinol and black sesame products on tyrosinase activity and melanin production in B16 cells,a type of mouse melanoma cells similar to human melanocyte structure. The findings revealed that sesamin and pinoresinol, exhibited the ability to enhance tyrosinase activity in B16 cells and stimulate melanin production. The ethanol and water extract of walnut sesame black bean powder and black sesame pill could also promote the production of melanin in B16 cells.Hence,it could be inferred that sesamin, pinoresinol, and black sesame products possess the capability to stimulate melanin synthesis, thereby exhibiting the potential to induce hair pigmentation.
