As one of the important stakeholders,executives’decision-making behaviors and management styles have a profound impact on the sustainable development of multinational corporations(MNCs).This paper applies stakeholder theory and Porter’s hypothesis to examine the impact of executives’confidence level on the sustainability performance of MNCs based on the data of A-share listed companies that have overseas subsidiaries from 2006 to 2022,with environmental regulation as the moderating variable and innovation investment as the mediating variable. The results of the study show that:executives’confidence level is positively correlated with MNCs’sustainability performance;environmental regulations strengthen the positive correlation between executives’confidence level and MNCs’sustainability performance;innovation investment mediates the relationship between executives’confidence level and MNCs’sustainability performance. The study verifies the influence of executives’psychological characteristics on MNCs’sustainability performance, which is of great significance for MNCs to promote sustainable development, international cooperation and win-win.
