摘　　要：老舍的中短篇英译集至今仅有两部:1985年出版的Crescent Moon and Other Stories和1999年发行的Blades of Grass:The Stories of Lao She。前者是《中国文学》杂志社出版的Panda Books译介丛书,后者则由美国学者威廉·莱尔与陈伟明编译,是葛浩文主编的Fiction From Modern China英译丛书之一。两者的出版时间相近,并且均在译介过程中对老舍的文学形象进行了一定程度的“重写”,在诸多方面构成了饶有意味的对照。本文关注两部中短篇译集的“重写”路径差异及其背后的文化意图,重点考察二者的译介发生语境、底本选择及译者处理作品“现代性”要素方式的相异之处,并在此基础上思考老舍中短篇文体译介与丰富老舍域外文学形象的可行性策略。There are so far only two collections in English translation of short stories and novellas by Lao She,Crescent Moon and Other Stories,published in 1985,and Blades of Grass:The Stories of Lao She,published in 1999,the former in the Panda Book series by Chinese Literature Press,and the latter translated and edited by American scholars William A.Lyell and Sarah Wei-ming Chen,becoming one of the books in English translation in the Fiction From Modern China series,edited by Howard Goldblatt.Both were published closely together in terms of time,and experienced a certain degree of rewriting of Lao She’s literary images in the process of editing and translation,forming an interesting contrast in numerous aspects.This paper concerns itself with the differences between the rewriting pathways in these two collections and the cultural meaning that lies behind them,giving priority to the examination of the context in which the translation and introduction of the two took place,the selection of the basic texts and similarities or differences in how the translators dealt with the elements of modernity in the works,and,based on this,giving thought to the translation and introduction of the genres of short stories and novellas by Lao She as well as the strategy of feasibility of enriching Lao She’s literary images outside China.
