摘  要:《亦此亦彼》是阿莉·史密斯的第一部艺格敷词小说。在这部以意大利画家弗朗西斯科·德尔·科萨为原型,将视觉艺术应用到小说写作中,科萨的壁画艺术贯穿整个故事。小说中,史密斯表面上通过杜撰科萨的生平和其艺术创作的故事,借由当代少女乔治及其母亲卡萝对科萨壁画的赏析,探讨艺术的重要性以及如何观看艺术等艺术性主题,而掩盖在故事底层的是史密斯长期以来所关注的女性主义、正义之缺席等主题。史密斯通过自称为“壁画结构”的艺格敷词小说,再现艺术与叙事的完美融合。Ali Smith’s first attempt at an ekphrastic novel is her experimental work How to Be Both,in which the fresco art of Italian painter Francesco del Cossa runs through the entire story.On the surface,Smith explores themes such as the signifi-cance of art,ways of seeing art,and other artistic ideas by inventing the life story of Francesco,as well as the artistic creation and interpretation of art by contemporary characters George and her mother Carol.Beneath the surface,Smith delves into multi-ple themes such as feminism,homosexuality,and the absence of justice,issues she has long been concerned with.Smith inte-grates visual art into her narrative by creating what she calls a“fresco structure,”a unique ekphrastic approach that blends verbal representation with visual representation in a way that forms a distinctive and innovative novel.
