人类世自觉中的异域形象再现——论理查德·鲍尔斯《树语》中的中国书写

摘　　要：理查德·鲍尔斯的《树语》体现着“人类世”时代中人与树、人与人之间休戚相关、命运与共的价值取向,体现出作家鲜明的人类世自觉。故事通过扶桑树串联起了马氏家族三代人由中国到美国的移民往事,其中的中国书写值得深入探讨。本文从政治体制、人物和文化三个方面考察小说中的中国元素。研究认为,在人类世危机中,鲍尔斯将中国刻画为西方气候变化话语中的异域他者,这在某种程度上制约了作家关于人与自然、不同民族之间共同体思想的传达以及为此作出的努力。Richard Powers’The Overstory embodies the value implication of shared destiny and solidarity between man and nature,and between individuals in the Anthropocene era,reflecting a profound Anthropocene awareness.The story strings up the immigration past of three generations of the Ma family from China to the United States through Fusang trees,and it is valuable to probe into Chinese elements in the novel.This study analyzes Chinese elements in the novel regarding the political system,people and culture.It is concluded that in the context of the Anthropocene crisis,Powers’portrayal of China as an exotic in the Western discourse of climate change somewhat constrains the author’s efforts to fully convey the concept of community between man and nature,and between different ethnic groups.
