摘 要:汉英习语是汉英民族智慧的结晶,蕴含着汉英民族文化底蕴,承载着汉英民族文化内涵,是汉英语言重要组成部分。汉英跨文化交际应用习语,不仅要了解习语表层含义,也要掌握习语深层含义的词源理据,避免因习语应用不当而产生跨文化交际障碍。通过陈述习语概念、特点,在跨文化交际背景下,结合词源学视角,研究汉英习语饮食文化、地理文化、动物文化、宗教文化等词源理据,探究汉英习语词源和文化内涵,研究发现跨文化交际视域下汉英习语含义理解存在不完全对等与完全不对等两种情况:汉英语言用不同事物习语,表达相同抽象概念;汉英语言用相同、不相同具体形象事物习语,表达不同抽象概念。Chinese and English idioms are the crystallization of the wisdom of the Chinese and English nations,embodying the cultural heritage and connotation of these nations,and constituting an important part of Chinese and English languages.In crosscultural communication involving Chinese and English idioms,it is essential not only to understand the literal meanings of the idioms but also to grasp the etymological basis of their deeper meanings,thereby avoiding cross-cultural communication barriers caused by improper idiom usage.By presenting the concepts and characteristics of idioms,this study,against the backdrop of cross-cultural communication and from an etymological perspective,examines the etymological rationales of Chinese and English idioms related to dietary culture,geographical culture,animal culture,religious culture,and other aspects.It explores the etymology and cultural connotations of Chinese and English idioms and finds that there are two types of situations in understanding the meanings of Chinese and English idioms from the perspective of cross-cultural communication:incomplete equivalence and complete non-equivalence.Specifically,Chinese and English use idioms involving different objects to express the same abstract concept,or use idioms involving the same or different concrete images to express different abstract concepts.
