Cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury(CIRI)is a complex pathological process that currently lacks effective clinical treatments.Ferroptosis represents a distinct form of programmed cell death, differing from apoptosis, necrosis, and autophagy. It is characterized by the accumulation of iron and lipid peroxides.Recent research has demonstrated the involvement of ferroptosis in the development of various diseases, including heart disease, tumors, and stroke.Natural compounds exhibit multiple biological activities and target various pathways.Consequently, natural compounds that target ferroptosis present a novel therapeutic approach for CIRI,emerging as a prominent area of investigation. This review examines the mechanisms underlying ferroptosis in CIRI and discusses the current research status of natural compounds, extracts, and combinations that intervene at different stages of ferroptosis to alleviate this condition. The aim is to provide new insights and methodologies for mitigating CIRI.
