Objective To explore the causal association between tea intake and risk of depression. Methods A two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis was performed using Genome-wide Association Study(GWAS)summary data.Inverse variance weighted(IVW)was used as the primary estimate of Mendelian randomization(MR),with additional methods serving as supplementary estimates.Sensitivity analysis was conducted using the MR-PRESSO test and MR-Egger regression. Results Forty-one SNPs were eventually included in the analysis, and IVW analysis showed no clear causal relationship between tea intake and risk of depression(OR=1.04,P_(IVW)=0.54).MR-PRESSO test provided consistent estimates of association effects.MR-Egger regression analysis did not find pleiotropy. Conclusion The present study failed to provide evidence that tea intake reduces the risk of depression from a genetic perspective. We therefore need more experimental studies in the future to elucidate the potential causal association between tea intake and the risk of depression.
