摘　　要：基础研究具有前瞻性和战略性,是孕育原始创新的源泉,同时也面临高风险和高不确定性,企业开展基础研究能否提升产品创新绩效一直备受争议。本文以2007—2022年中国医药制造企业为样本,建立面板负二项模型,检验纯基础研究和应用导向型基础研究与企业产品创新绩效的关系,以及吸收能力和地区知识产权保护的调节作用。研究发现:(1)纯基础研究与企业产品创新绩效存在U型关系,应用导向型基础研究对企业产品创新绩效具有显著正向影响。(2)企业吸收能力越弱,纯基础研究与产品创新绩效U型曲线的形状越扁平,应用导向型基础研究对产品创新绩效的促进作用越弱。(3)地区知识产权保护强度越高,纯基础研究与企业产品创新绩效U型曲线的形状越陡峭,应用导向型基础研究对企业产品创新绩效的促进作用越强。研究结果揭示了不同类型基础研究对企业产品创新绩效的影响效果和边界条件,对企业提升产品创新绩效具有一定的启示。Basic research is forward-looking and strategic,which is not only a source of original innovation,but also faces high risk and uncertainty,and it has been controversial whether enterprises can improve their product innovation performance by con-ducting basic research.Using a sample of Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises from 2007-2022,this paper devel-oped a panel negative binomial model to test the relationship between pure and application-oriented basic research and product in-novation performance of enterprises,as well as the moderating effects of absorptive capacity and regional intellectual property pro-tection(IPP).The findings indicated that(1)there is a U-shaped relationship between pure basic research and firm product in-novation performance,and application-oriented basic research has a significant positive impact on firm product innovation per-formance.(2)The weaker the enterprises'absorptive capacity,the flatter the shape of the U-curve between pure basic research and firm product innovation performance,and the weaker the effect of application-oriented basic research on firm product innova-tion performance.(3)The higher the intensity of regional IPP,the steeper the shape of the U-curve between pure basic research and firm product innovation performance,and the stronger the effect of application-oriented basic research on firm product inno-vation performance.The results of the study has revealed the impact and boundary conditions of different types of basic research on firm product innovation performance,which have implications for enterprises to improve their product innovation performance.
