An Overview of Scott Slovic's Lectures on Ecocriticism and the International Forum on “New Directions for Chinese Ecocriticism in the Context of Chinese Modernization”

摘　　要：2024年11月4—15日,北京第二外国语学院英语学院邀请美国著名环境人文学者、爱达荷大学荣誉教授、俄勒冈研究所高级科学家斯科特·斯洛维克(Scott Slovic)作了为期两周的生态批评系列讲座。在此期间,北京第二外国语学院英语学院联合该校中华文明阐释与国际传播研究院和“中华文明生态思想的全球价值与文明互鉴”研究团队,于11月9日共同举办了“东西互鉴古今融通——中国式现代化视域下生态批评新路径”国际学术论坛。现分别将讲座和论坛综述如下。From November 4 to 15, 2024, the School of English Studies at Beijing International Studies University invited the renowned American environmental humanities scholar, Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Idaho, and Senior Scientist at the Oregon Research Institute, Scott Slovic, to deliver a two-week series of lectures on the new development of ecocriticism. On November 9, the School of English Studies, in collaboration with the Institute for Understanding Chinese Civilization and the Research Team on Global Value and Intercultural Communication of Ecological Thoughts in Chinese Civilization, jointly organized an international academic forum on “New Directions for Chinese Ecocriticism in the Context of Chinese Modernization”.Professor Slovic's lecture series, themed “new trends in ccocriticism from a posthumanist perspective,” comprised 10 sessions, covering various cutting-edge issues in current ecocriticism, such as posthumanism, multispecies studies, environmental responsibility, new materialism, climate fiction, medical environmental humanities, and environmental communication. His discussions spanned multiple fields, including literature, philosophy, ecology, environmental humanities, medicine, and psychology, fully demonstrating the interdisciplinary and inclusive nature of ecocriticism. The international academic forum on “New Directions for Chinese Ecocriticism in the Context of Chinese Modernization” explored topics such as “the international communication of Chinese ecocriticism”,“the cultural expression of Chinese ecological wisdom”, and “ecocriticism of foreign literature from the perspective of Chinese Modernization”, fostering heated and in-depth academic discussions and exchanges.
