There could be found an obvious disruption in Ding Ling's writing during the Yan'an period. From the perspective of literary history,it can be interpreted as a transition from individuals to the masses consciously. It also implies a tense relationship between the“new women”and the revolutionary process from the perspective of gender studies.Nonetheless, the two interpretive approaches share an implicit consensus, namely the static opposition between“May Fourth Ding Ling”and“Yan'an Ding Ling”.This paper argues for the continuity between Ding Ling's characteristic female writing in early Yan'an period and“land reform”novel in late Yan'an,in terms of the epistemological isomorphism of their narrative structures.Furthermore, the emergence of the“gender”issue in Ding Ling's writing in early Yan'an should be attributed neither to Ding Ling's personal situation, nor to the external political discipline and self-censorship.Rather,it reflects Ding Ling's sustaining reflection on the problematic of revolutionary subjectivity since the“Literary Massification”movement inaugrated by“League of Left-Wing Writers”in the 1930s,and it achieved a more complicated narrative in her“land reform”novel in the late 1940s.
